The course introduces students to media, journalism and mass communication theory, its goals, building blocks and relevance for research. It traces the historical origins of major theoretical approaches to the study of the journalism, media and communication, their key protagonists, strengths and weaknesses. Journalism, media and communication models and theories are placed in the context of broader approaches. The course also seeks to explain the relevance of theory to journalism, media and communication practice.
