Welcome to Module ONE of the Save the Mothers, Master of Public Health Leadership.  We look forward to a really action packed time together.

Here are a few important announcements:

1)    Student registration and orientation:  Every student is expected to register with the university to confirm that they have started the course. Orientation will take place at mirembe hall on the first day while registration will be at the accounts office.

2)    Project Proposals—each student must complete a major research/project prior to the completion of your course in order to graduate.  Please start to think early in the course (during the first module) what you would like to do.  Formulate your ideas and be ready to submit a brief outline (due date will be announced).  Mrs Josephine M. Namyalo will update you about this.  Each of you will be assigned a supervisor.  Please also note that you have two years within which to complete your course. After the two years, the University bills each student 75% of the module tuition per module exceeded.

3)    Examinations—Exams will be held at the end of the  module after the courses have been presented.  YOU MUST HAVE REGISTERED and PAID all fees in order to take the examinations.  The university will NOT allow you into the exams if you haven’t paid.  This is the rule from the administration of the university – not the programs’.   PAY YOUR FEES PLEASE—and timely – otherwise, YOU (and the program) will suffer.

4)    Missing a module, you will have to make it up later (and graduate one year later).   A module is considered ‘missed’ if a student misses 5 or more days of class.   You should ask for a ‘dead’ year to the registrar’s office (make a formal letter and cc the academic program coordinator.  Please do not forget to make a formal request for a dead year or you will be CHARGED FULL TUITION FEES by the university.

5)    Marks will be available once the final assignments and exams have been marked.   Some courses extend through several modules.   Students who fail a course will have to repeat it the next time that it is offered.  This will force you to graduate one year later and extra module tuition may be charged by the university.  If you delay in defending and passing your defense/dissertation, you will also be subject to extra charges (tuition) from the university.  Please note that the passing mark is now 60%.

6)    PLEASE keep your phones in silence during class.  Calls should NOT be taken during class.

7)    Assignments:

a.     Assignments will be uploaded to the UCU—Save the Mothers STUDENT PORTAL on the ELearning platform.  The academic coordinator and interns will explain this to you shortly.  YOU MUST BE REGISTERED in the program in order to submit anything to the portal.  If there is a problem with the portal, assignments will be sent to the professor or faculty by email. ****UNLESS TOLD OTHERWISE, you will submit to the PORTAL.

b.     Deadlines must be honoured.  If assignments are a week late (or part thereof), the student will lose 10%.  If the assignment is more than a week late, it will NOT be accepted.  Please be on time with your assignments.
